This edition is good as it saves a lot of money if you want Barbarian invasion and same price as the Expanision itself. Rome itself has a small troop selection and aren't as cool. The MP community is rather douchey, but it's still fun to play with other people.
Gameplay wise, it's a RTT, real time tactics. Also it'd be aweomse for a friend system. The case looks good and fun to put on your shelf is you have the room and yea.
If only you had the Imperial Campaign for MP. You command up to 20 units of difrrent types of troops and lay waste to the other army with tactics that real generals used and the units are mostly accurate. The Imperial Campagin is fine but I don't care for it.
I don't like Barbarian invasions, very few unit selections and if your used to Rome having the largest troops slecetion and most awesome, you;ll be dissapointed.
Excellent game with great playability. Difficulty levels scale nicely once you start thinking your getting good at the game.
Excellent game mechanics, good transition between strategic and tactical essence, weak AI; but an all around good game. The navel element is the weakest link.
You can't get better looking computer graphics for amazing scenery and real time battles than this. I have been playing it often since I received it. You have the option to do quick battles, custom battles, historic battles and campaign generated battles. Its addictive so be careful.
Like most games, it is the most fun in the beginning, and then it goes somewhat downhill. The only "bad thing" about the main-game is that it gets quite annoying to manage the Empire once it gets big enough, but then again, that is probably what it feels like to manage the known World.I find the "Barbarian Invasion"-game a bit tedious, since it is so hard to kill off the various other tribes with their 50 family-members, and the fact that there's really nothing to do except take down the Roman Empire. Well, I finally managed to win this game through conquering most of Europe (50 provinces), even though I've had it for years. The game is great for many reasons; it combines city-building in the various provinces, with character-development for the various members of your extended family, intense real-time tactical battles involving thousands of soldiers in breathtaking scenery that varies depending on the location. I have very little time these days to play computer games, but this comes highly recommended if you have the time, especially considering everything one might learn about Roman history from it. That might just be me, though; it is after all a really great game. To expand the Roman Empire from its meagre beginnings with a few provinces in Italy to ruling the "World" is quite an adventure, and it will take quite some time to do so.
Nothing to do really. Not that the game is that hard, it just gets a bit tedious to manage the Empire once it gets big enough. Once it crumbles, then what. You can choose to play either as one of the three major families in ancient Rome: the Julii, the Scipii and the Brutii in the main game, OR you can play as one of the "barbarian" tribes and try to take down the Roman Empire and each other a bit later. Added to this is the care you have to take to keep your family alive and prosperous (the extended family are your generals in battle, so if you loose them, you might loose your fathers or brothers etc). I find the replay-value to be quite low for "Barbarian Invasion", yet if you have it in you I guess you can play the main-game until you drop. 5 stars for this excellent historical game.
